George C. Hastings: A Tireless Social Justice Advocate

On Friday, January 27, 2017, the Bridge lost a founder and a friend: George C. Hastings. George was a tireless social justice advocate. Motivated by an innate desire to empower others, he dedicated his life both professionally and personally to strengthening the lives of others.

Here at the Bridge, we knew George as one of our founders, a brilliant, humble, generous man, who even after his years as a founding Director of our Board came to a close, remained with us as a trusted mentor, advocate, and volunteer. George served the Bridge in many capacities over the last 48 years. He served as President and Vice President of our Board multiple times, had a consistent presence on our strategic planning and governance committees, mentored middle-school boys, hosted and attended our events, and offered ongoing support to the children served at our Short-Term Assessment and Respite home in Wolcott. In 2008, we named that home Hastings House in George’s honor.

George will have a lasting impact on the Bridge Family Center. Personally, we will remember his counsel—often delivered through his good humor—and his spirit, which inspires us to look beyond ourselves. And we remain grateful for his desire to help secure the future of the Bridge. In his early days, George helped sculpt our mission, and over the years, he continued to believe in its import so much that he became a founding member of our Planned Giving Society, Builders for the Future.

We offer our condolences to his loved ones, friends, and colleagues.  You can trust that we will uphold the dignity of his legacy through our continued commitment to serve every family, every child, every time.

And to you, George: Thank you; the honor was ours.
