Judy Bierly Honored with Build No Fences Award

On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, the Bridge Family Center awarded Judy Bierly with the Build No Fences Award.

The Build No Fences Award was designed to recognize an individual in our community who sees no boundaries and works collaboratively with child advocates to support young people and families. Judy Bierly more than fits the bill. She retired on June 30, 2016 after serving the Bridge for 23 years as its Director of Community Services. She is beloved by people throughout the town of West Hartford for her investment in the lives of youth and families--and is especially treasured by her former colleagues, who witnessed her work first-hand.

"Judy is a natural collaborator," says Martha Rennie, Director of Development for the Bridge. "Personally modest with a great sense of humor, she draws people to her because of her warmth and quiet but clear leadership. Whether heading the Children’s Charity Ball committee, working with the Substance Abuse Prevention Committee, town departments, business, civic or religious groups, or reaching out to the press about a Bridge initiative or community concern, Judy was always inclusive and respectful in her approach. She is a thoughtful listener and truly selfless collaborator interested in others’ thoughts and ideas."

Throughout the award ceremony, comments from many community friends were read, and Margaret Hann, Executive Director of the Bridge concluded by saying, "Judy spent her career building bridges in our community, making everyone she touched feel important and needed, and she inspires all of us to do our best. I am so pleased that Judy is this year’s recipient of the Build No Fences Award."
