Tune-In to Life Week
April 23 - April 29, 2007

The 20th annual Tune-In to Life week from April 23-29, sponsored by The Bridge and the West Hartford Substance Abuse Prevention Commission, focused on healthy drug-free activities, both fun and educational, for all ages as well as education around substance abuse.  1,407 young people and 1,183 adults participated in 14 events. 

 

Events for the week included:

 

Papa and Me at the FRC - Drop-in playgroup for children ages birth to 4 and a male parent/guardian at the Charter Oak Academy Family Resource Center (FRC).  Arts and crafts, snacks, and stories.

 

Community of Concern Decaf Coffeehouse - Hall and Conard High Schools’ Community of Concern (CoC) held a Decaf Coffeehouse on Tuesday, April 24.  A View into Your Child’s World: What’s Normal/What’s Not? with Bill Kania, LMFT, Wheeler Clinic.  

 

Panera Bread - 10% Night for The Bridge

          

“A Trip Down Memory Lane” Intergenerational Event - Hall High Jazz Band entertained senior citizens with nostalgic tunes. 

 

Family Dance Party - Family Dance Party for pre-school children and families.  Entertainment by Dale Griffith of Into the Groove.

 

5K Family Fun Run/2K Walk - Saturday, April 28, 9:00 a.m. at MDC Reservoir #1, 1420 Farmington Ave.  For all ages!!  T-shirts to first 125 to pre-register for walk/run.  JuggleJoy Clown Keith Hughes; Goody Bags for children; Raffle.  Sponsored by The Bridge; W.H. Substance Abuse Prevention Commission; Exchange Club; Police Officers’ Association; Leisure Services; Fire Union; and The Fitness Clinic.  Non-measured & non-sanctioned. 

 

Family Fun Swim - A morning session of swimming and family fun with Colleen Murphy, therapist/ swimming instructor for The Bridge. 

 

Bridge Partners with Lyn Evans for Potpourri Designs - On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 26, 27, & 28 Lyn Evans for Potpourri Designs donated 10% of their sales to The Bridge Family Center.

 

The Poetry Slam - Poetry Slam at Conard High School.  Participants shared their writing with an audience of students and teachers.  Poetry was about personal experiences, thoughts, and opinions; more “confessional” in style. 

 

The Grounds (A Place for Teens to Chill) - Night of Comedy, Improv, and Music at the Park Road Playhouse.

 

Tune-Up During Tune-In!  Get Physical! - Take the opportunity to try out a free physical activity during Tune-In to Life week and try to jumpstart getting in shape and kicking up your energy level.  Free personal weight training session at The Fitness Clinic; free water fitness class at Cornerstone Aquatics Center; free yoga class at Center Yoga.

 

Mindful Parenting - How keeping 10 basic rules in “Mind” can help you raise emotionally healthy kids.  The Bridge Family Center.  Facilitated by Bridge therapists Linda Abrahamson, MSW & Jacqueline Newhouse, MSW

 

W.H. Community Television - The week's programs on WHC-TV were devoted to the Tune-In to Life theme and youth and family issues.  Programs for the week sponsored by Webster Bank.
