Volunteer Opportunities

The assistance of volunteers greatly enhances the work of the Bridge Family Center and expands our capability to serve young people and families. Below is a listing of volunteer opportunities that are available. If you are interested in learning more or would like a Volunteer Application, contact Doreen Tarascio at 860.521.8035

 

The Bridge welcomes volunteer support in the following areas:

Children's Charity Ball Committee 

Serve on the planning committee for the annual fundraising gala on April 30, 2022. Meetings are every other Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Help Supervise Children 

Early Learning Playgroup – Assist teachers working with infants through preschoolers in our Thursday morning playgroup from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at our Family Resource Center in Charter Oak International Academy.

Teen Center at Elmwood Community Center.  Assist staff with supervision at the Teen Center on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school and one Friday night a month.

Teen Volunteers 

High school students have enjoyed organizing drives to collect books for children birth to 10, nonperishable food, health products, school supplies, art supplies, and other needed items.

College Students 

Many college students have organized drives to collect books for children birth to 10, nonperishable food, health products, school supplies, and art supplies.

College students are needed for our summer 1, 2, 3 Read with Me program held during the month of July for children who will enter kindergarten in the fall. There is a morning and an afternoon session.

Clerical Help 

Assist office staff with basic office tasks, primarily preparation of large mailings.

Special Skills/Talents 

Persons with skill/talent in areas such as chess, knitting, dance, yoga, writing, etc., to work with young people.

Adults to Work with At-Risk Youth 

Adults are wanted to do special tasks/projects such as pumpkin carving, baking, decorating for holidays, knitting, yoga, building bird houses, or one of an endless number of projects. Volunteering to do a one-time project or a once-a-month project is appreciated. Anyone who wants to build relationships with at-risk youth is welcome. 

Adults are also wanted to assist with teaching group life skills, such as cooking, money management, obtaining employment, etc.

Annual Musical Assistance 

Adults needed to work behind the scenes on the annual musical at our Family Resource Center in January.
