The 2024 Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a FREE, 20 session program that combines advocacy, leadership, and citizenship skills into a curriculum to promote the best interests of children.

PLTI is an initiative of the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity. It is sponsored by the Bridge Family Center with funding support from the Parent Trust and Connecticut State Department of Education.

PLTI 2024 will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. beginning January 17, 2024 and concluding on June 5, 2024. Classes will be held at the Charter Oak International Academy Family Resource Center, 425 Oakwood Avenue, West Hartford. Free childcare for school-age children (4+) and a meal will be provided.

The components of the Parent Leadership Training Institute are:

  • An initial retreat
  • Weekly educational sessions that focus on knowledge about the change process, skill building, and tools of civic engagement.
  • A community project
  • A graduation celebration at the completion of the training

The goals of PLTI are:

  • Helping parents become great leaders for their children and families.
  • Increasing positive parent-child interactions and improving child success through parent involvement.
  • Training parents to be active participants in the democratic process - to take part in community policy development and problem resolution.
